Flannery O'Connor collection, [ca.1937-2003].

This artificial collection of Flannery O'Connor letters, manuscripts, and printed items has been assembled from various sources (gifts and purchases) over many years. The collection contains correspondence; manuscripts, including corrected typescripts of talks O'Connor delivered on the subject of writing; printed materials, audiovisual material, and photographs. Of particular interest are letters (ca. 1937) relating to a childhood trip to Atlanta; letters to and from Marvin Whiting (1964) regarding a class visit to O'Connor's home in Milledgeville, Georgia; and correspondence to Joel Wells of the Critic magazine (1957, 1962-1964) in which she discusses her own writing, the writing of James Gould Cozzens and others, and an interview with O'Connor that appeared in the Critic. Also present are letters to Mrs. Frank H. "Bobbie" Gafford and Fred Darsey that discuss day-to-day aspects of her life as a writer, her own religious faith, health, and daily farm life.
